What's in my Birchbox: December! / Video

Brand Focus: NYX

Birchbox vs. Sephora PLAY! / Video

I've noticed two things recently.
1. I have been putting out a lot of video content
2. A lot of my content has not been style related.

I can explain why. When I started editing my vlog of Canada (I've been working on it for months!) I realized how much I LOVE making videos. I like every aspect of it. I love filming and editing so why not keep exploring this passion? I'm currently working on an "alternative" apartment tour of sorts. I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Another reason I haven't had much fashion content lately is due to some health problems I've been having lately. Normally I'd go out and shoot my outfits on the weekends really early in the morning but I've been spending my weekends resting as much as possible. I am hoping the fatigue will be gone soon as I love fall fashion and want to show you guys what I've been wearing!

Anyways, do you subscribe to any beauty boxes?

The Pros and Cons of Beauty Boxes

Sephora Play - November!

It's been a while since I've done a beauty post! To clarify from my last post - I will be posting on this blog but just not on instagram. I'm still trying to figure out a schedule that will work because I'm not sure I can commit to three posts per week but we'll see!

I recently started subscribing to the Sephora PLAY box. I've never gotten a beauty subscription box but a friend of mine recommended this one and it's only $10! I was pretty pleased with my first box so I thought I'd show you what I got! And I might have subscribed because of the blog content....

November's theme was "Best in Glow" so it featured a myriad of products to help either give you a natural glow or give you a little help with it!

The first product is the Glam Glow Hydrating Thirstymud Treatment, which I was really excited to try out. It's a really nice mask for clearing up my skin BUT very drying. I definitely wouldn't pay $70 for a full size.

The next product is the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet. This is a really nice moisturizer. It didn't irritate my skin (like most) and left it fairly hydrated. But again, I don't know if I would pay $40 for it.

One product I haven't tried yet is the Cover FX Illuminating Primer. I haven't been wearing much face makeup lately but when I do, I'll definitely be giving this a try!

Probably my favorite thing from this box is the Laura Mercier Cavier Stick Eye Color. I've been wearing it everyday since I got it! It lasts all day and is the perfect champagne color for this time of year. I'm obsessed.

One product I honestly didn't even try is the Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gloss. It's a hot pink color and I really hate lip glosses so I didn't even bother.

The box also comes with a perfume sample each time, which is fun but I normally stick to the same perfume (a-hem cologne) everyday.

Would you get the Sephora Play box?

Updated Skincare Routine

Skincare Routine

So obviously the whole posting everyday thing didn't really last... But after my fall, computer crashing, AND getting sick this week? I just couldn't do it! But I might try again in the coming months when things calm down. So for now my schedule is going back to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!

But I haven't done an updated skincare routine in probably a year! So it's about time to do one again because I've switched up what I use and I don't think my skin has ever looked better! My skin-type is definitely dry. I have such dry skin so I just try and pack on the moisture.

MORNING

I don't do too much in the morning but I do like to use the Simple Skincare Toner just to get anything off my face that might have been there the night before. I also like to use moisturizer (which I forgot to photograph!) but right now I'm loving the St. Ives Moisturizer. It's very lightweight and keeps my skin hydrated all day!

NIGHT

My night skincare routine is a bit more involved but not by much! If I was wearing makeup that day I'll start off with the Garnier Micellar Water. To be honest, I grabbed the waterproof version on accident and I'm not sure I like it as much. It's a bit more oily so I wouldn't recommend if you have oily skin! With the normal version of the Micellar water I never felt like I needed to wash my face directly after but with this one I definitely do! It just leaves my face feeling a bit greasy.

So, I like to use some more of the Simple Toner just to get rid of anything else on my face. If I'm not showering that night, I like to use the Clinique Smart Night Moisturizer. I only have a sample of this that came in a free gift because it's so expensive but it does leave my face feeling nice and soft. Plus, the sample size lasts so long because a little goes a long way!

IN THE SHOWER

I normally shower everyday or every other day depending on if I worked out or not but there are a few things I like to use in the shower for my skin. For my daily face wash I like to use the Simple Moisturizing Face Wash. It's gentle and cleanses my skin wonderfully. It's also fragrance free so it doesn't irritate my skin if I use it daily. Once a week I like to use the St. Ives Oatmeal Scrub. I used to use the apricot one but this scrub/mask is so much gentler and perfect for an in-shower mask! I can really feel a difference from this when I use it.

For my body I use a shower gel but the real stand out is the SHE Mermaid Salt Scrub. I picked this up from TJ.Maxx for $6 and it is AMAZING! First of all, the scent is so lovely! It's a nice citrusy scent, which I just love. I use it as a body scrub when I have dry skin and it has been helping tremendously! It's really amazing on dry patches. It's also cruelty free! You can pick it up on the SHE website or check your local TJ.Maxx for cheaper ones! I really want to try more from this brand because it looks like they've got some really cool ethically-made products.

What have you been loving for your skin lately?

Summer Makeup Look

I don't know about where you live but there I'm from it's getting pretty warm pretty quickly... It's supposed to be 99 degrees this week! No, thanks. But I've come up with a pretty good sweat proof and easy makeup look that beats the heat!

I don't really change up my base so I'm still using the Rimmel BB cream. I like using it because it provides pretty good coverage and it has SPF! Especially important for the summer. I use a real techniques beauty blender to put it on, which I find gives it the most natural looking glow. I then like to use the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder just because I find this helps makes my base stay on longer. To add a little bit of glow back I have recently been loving the Makeup Revolution Highlighter in Peach lights. I find it works perfectly as a blush/highlighter duo! These highlighters also come in a few different shades to work for all skin types.

For my eyes I like to keep it pretty simple. I don't like using a lot of powder in the summer so I've been loving the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink. I also have a bronze shade, which looks beautiful all over the lid! They last all day and are so affordable. For mascara I like to use the Tarte lights camera lashes mascara. It lasts through the heat and makes my lashes look incredible!

For lips I like to throw on some tinted lip balm or chapstick. And then to make sure everything stays in place I spritz a little bit of the Wet n Wild Setting Spray

This look seriously only takes me 5ish minutes and is perfect for the hot weather! What products do you love during this time of year?

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Valentine's Day Makeup

I don't normally do holiday related posts but I figured I might as well try one out! I am also not a huge celebrator of Valentine's day but  I like pink eyeshadows so why not?

Lace-up shirt & mini update

I'm a little late to the trend but that's what always happens when you buy things from the thrift store! I actually took these photos a while ago but am just posting them now.... Oops.

October Favorites (Beauty, Skincare, Fashion, Music)

It's a little late than never but I figured I'd still get one of these out to you guys! I also decided to do this in blog format as opposed to youtube.

Pattern Mixing / Life Update

I suppose I should start with the life update because that's why you're all here, right? If only I could portray my sarcasm on the internet.

Statement Blazer, Velvet Dress

It's really strange but I feel like my entire life did a 180 last week. I went from feeling so sad and overwhelmed (for 5+ months) to so excited about life. The past few months haven't been easy for me so I'm really glad things seem to be turning around. So, in honor of feeling happy and looking forward - I wore a bolder outfit to celebrate.

Striped Sweater, Burgundy Skirt

I've been trying to make a point of going on walks everyday and I happened upon this nature trail near my house. I'm really happy I found this trail and I'm excited to keep photographing here for upcoming blog posts! I'm pretty happy with how these photos turned out.

Anyways - the outfit.

Casual Sunday Outfit

I love getting ready in the morning. Obviously, as a fashion blogger it's one of my favorite parts of my day. I love coming up with different outfit ideas and seeing them come together. But sometimes - I love putting on a good comfortable shirt, skinny jeans, and some sneakers. It's one of the things I feel most comfortable in - the most 'me' outfit if you will. And Sunday's are normally my comfy outfit days - so I thought I'd show you!
